অনেকে সমাবর্তনে বাবা-মাকে নিয়ে আসতে চান। এজন্য উনাদের প্রয়োজন বি১/বি২ ভিসা বা বি২ ভিসা। বি১ হল বিজনেস ভিসা, বি২ হল পর্যটন ভিসা, বি১/বি২ হল বিজনেস/পর্যটন ভিসা। বি ক্যাটাগরির ভিসাগুলোকে বলে visitor visa (temporary, non-immigrant)। আমি বেশ কয়েকজনকে দেখেছি বাবা-মায়ের জন্য বি২-এর বদলে বি১/বি২ ভিসার আবেদন করতে। উনারা পেয়েও গিয়েছেন ভিসা। আমার মা এবং বাবাও বি১/বি২ ভিসার জন্য আবেদন করে ভিসা পেয়েছেন। তাই আমার সঠিক ধারণা নেই বি২-এর বদলে বি১/বি২ দিলে কখনো কোনো ঝামেলা হতে পারে কিনা। আজ বলব বাবা কীভাবে ভিসা পেলেন, সে ঘটনা। মা আগেই আলাদাভাবে আবেদন করে ভিসা পেয়েছিলেন।

আগামী মে মাসে অনুষ্ঠিত সমাবর্তনে আসার জন্য বাবা ভিসার আবেদন করেছিলেন। আমাদের চিন্তা ছিল, সমাবর্তনের কথা বললে যদি ভিসা পাওয়াটা সহজ হয়! যদি তখন নাও আসতে পারেন, তবু তো ভিসাটা হয়ে থাকবে। ভিসা থাকলে সুযোগমত আসা যাবে। এজন্যেই সমাবর্তন মাথায় রেখে আবেদন করলাম। যুক্তরাষ্ট্রে বসে আমি DS160 ফর্ম পূরণ করে দিলাম। বাবা ২ বাই ২ ইঞ্চি ছবি তুলেছিলেন, সেটার সফট কপি ফর্মে জুড়ে দিলাম। ফর্ম সাবমিট করার পর যথারীতি কনফার্মেশন পেইজ এল। সেটা বাবা প্রিন্ট করে নিলেন। তারপর ইবিএল ব্যাংকে গিয়ে ভিসা ফি জমা দিলেন। ব্যাংক থেকে টাকা জমাদানের রিসিট নিলেন। একদম আপনি যা যা করেছেন, তাই। তারপর ভিসা ইন্টার্ভিউ করতে হয় যে ওয়েবসাইট থেকে, সেখানে গিয়ে আমি সুবিধামত একটা তারিখে ইন্টার্ভিউ স্কেজিউল করলাম। অনলাইনের সব কাজ আপনি যুক্তরাষ্ট্রে বসে করে দিতে পারবেন। এগুলো দেশ থেকে করতে হবে, তা না।

যেহেতু বাবা-মা দুইজনই আসবেন, তাই দুজনের আসা-যাওয়া, থাকা-খাওয়া, ঘোরাঘুরি সব মিলিয়ে আমরা সম্ভাব্য খরচ ধরেছিলাম ৮০০০ ইউএস ডলার। সে অনুযায়ী ফান্ড দেখানোর জন্য প্রয়োজনীয় কাগজপত্র (স্যালারি সার্টিফিকেট, ব্যাংক সল্ভেন্সি) যোগাড় করেছিলাম। এরপর একটা তালিকা বানালাম কী কী প্রশ্ন করতে পারে, তার। মজার ব্যাপার হল, আমি বাবার ইন্টার্ভিউও নিয়েছিলাম ওসব প্রশ্ন ধরে। একদম বুলেটপ্রুফ জ্যাকেট পরিয়ে যুদ্ধক্ষেত্রে পাঠানো আর কি। ইন্টার্ভিউয়ের দিন নির্দিষ্ট ডকুমেন্ট নিয়ে বাবা হাজির হলেন ইউএস এমব্যাসিতে।

আগে হয়ত ভার্সিটি থেকে সমাবর্তনের আমন্ত্রণ পত্র উঠানো যেত, কিন্তু এখন আর এই সিস্টেম নেই। তবুও যদি চান, নিজের আমন্ত্রণ পত্র লিখে দিতে পারেন। সেখানে সাধারণত লেখা থাকে, যুক্তরাষ্ট্রে থাকাকালে আপনার পিতামাতার থাকা-খাওয়াসহ যাবতীয় খরচ আপনি বহন করবেন। আমি অবশ্য যাবতীয় খরচের কথা লিখিনি। আমি দুই পয়সার কামলা। নুন আনতে পান্তা ফুরায় অবস্থা। তাই শুধু থাকা খাওয়ার কথা লিখেছিলাম। আমার এপার্টমেন্টে উনারা থাকবেন, খাবেন কিন্তু ঘোরাঘুরির খরচ সম্পূর্ণ উনাদের। বাবা-মায়ের উছিলায় আমাদের ঘোরা হবে, এটাই বাস্তবতা।

ইন্টার্ভিউয়ের জন্য বাবাকে যখন ডাকা হল, তখন শুধু একটা প্রশ্নই জিজ্ঞেস করল ভিসা অফিসার, “হোয়াই ডু ইউ ওয়ান্ট টু গো টু আমেরিকা?” এটা ছিল আমার তালিকার প্রথম প্রশ্ন। বাবা তো প্রশ্ন কমন পেয়ে পুরো মুখস্ত ঝাড়লেন, “আই ওয়ান্ট টু অ্যাটেন্ড মাই ডটার’স গ্র্যাজুয়েশন সিরিমনি।” অফিসার আর কোনো প্রশ্ন করলেন না। কলম আর কাগজ এগিয়ে দিয়ে বললেন, “প্লিজ রাইট ডাউন ইউর ডটার’স নেইম এন্ড ডেট অফ বার্থ।” বাবা চটপট লিখে দিলেন। এরপর অফিসার কম্পিউটারে খুটখাট করে ঘোষণা করলেন, “আপনার ভিসা অনুমোদন করা হল।” বাবা বিস্মিত। এত এত প্রশ্ন যে প্র্যাকটিস করলেন, কিছুই তো ধরল না! এত এত ডকুমেন্ট আনলেন, কিছুই দেখতে চাইল না।

আমি যতদূর জানি, বি১/বি২ ভিসা ইন্টার্ভিউয়ের সময় চাইলে বাংলা ভাষায় কথা বলা যায়। তাই ইংরেজি নিয়ে দুশ্চিন্তা করার কিছু নেই। আমিও বাবাকে বলে রেখেছিলাম যেন প্রশ্ন বুঝতে সমস্যা হলে বাংলায় ইন্টার্ভিউ নেওয়ার জন্য অনুরোধ করেন। কিন্তু মাত্র একটা প্রশ্নের উপর দিয়ে যাওয়ায় ভাষা নিয়ে ঝামেলায় পড়তে হয়নি।
